VicRoads is inviting appropriately prequalified organisations to register Expressions of Interest to tender for the construction of the Western Highway Project – Beaufort to Buangor.
As a part of the Nation Building Program, the Victorian and Australian government’s have committed $505 million to the Western Highway upgrade between Ballarat and Stawell. This funding will allow construction of the next stage of the project, approximately 15.4 kilometres between Beaufort and Buangor.
Western Highway Project Director Michael McCarthy said VicRoads’ short listing and tendering processes will ensure fair and open competition for those wishing to compete for the contract.
“We are looking forward to talking with organisations keen to take on the construction of the next stage of the Western Highway Project,” Mr McCarthy said.
Skills and experience, value for money, and past and current performance are all considered in this process.
Mr McCarthy said as the principal road link between Melbourne and Adelaide, the Western Highway serves interstate trade between Victoria and South Australia and is the key transport corridor through Victoria’s western district.
“The duplication of the highway will be built to current highway standards, which will allow safe overtaking, improve freight efficiency and reduce the risk of head-on and run-off road crashes,” Mr McCarthy said.
The key features of this new project will include new bridges at Fiery Creek, Middle Creek and Charliecombe Creek, a separated full diamond interchange at Eurambeen-Streatham Road and new roadside rest areas in both directions.
Construction is expected to commence in early 2014 with completion in 2015.
Prequalified organisations seeking to be short listed to tender for this contract can obtain a copy of the Expression of Interest document from here. Submissions are due by Wednesday 18 September 2013.
On August 29 an Expression of Interest briefing session will be held at the Western Highway Project Office in Ballarat. Interested contractors should note that attendance is mandatory.
Further information regarding the briefing session can be found in the Expression of Interest document, or by phoning the Project Office on (03) 5309 1050.
